AANHPI stands for Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders.
Every May is AANHPI Heritage Month, a time to reflect upon and celebrate the remarkable contributions of the AANHPI community in US history. Lone Star College – Montgomery, a campus of Lone Star College System located at the Woodlands, successfully hosted the third annual AANHPI Hertiage Month celebration. The event included music, dances, Chinese poetry, calligraphy, fashion show, country tables, and international food. The Woodlands Chinese Cultural Center was invited to provide 30-minute performances including:
1. Han Style Clothing Show by Qianqian Wang, Ginger Wang, Linlin Liu, Yun Liu, Sarah Feng, Mandy Duan, Kezhen Wang, Jiarong Xiao, Ying Yi
2. Kazakh Folk Song “Lark, The Wonderful Singer” by Veronica Bai
3. National instrumental music performance “Fisherman’s Song” by Yixiu Yan
4. A Medley of Four Songs by Robbie Li
- Chinese song “Jasmine”
- Japanese Song “Four Seasons”
- Korean Song “Arirang”
- English Song “Leaving on a Jet Plane”
5. Cheongsam Fingers Snap Dance by Qianqian Wang, Ginger Wang, Linlin Liu, Yun Liu, Kezhen Wang, Jiarong Xiao, Ying Yi
The Woodlands Chinese Cultural Center presented a wonderful cultural “feast” and the event attracted hundreds of attendees including Lone Star College – Montgomery’s administrators, faculty, staff, and students.
Throughout May, there will be multiple events designed to commemorate AANHPI Heritage Month in the Greater Houston area.
